SICC Windows On Bukit

Sometime back, the BF and I were wondering where to go for our Christmas eve dinner. We generally try to avoid any restaurant that has any "Christmas promotion", because that usually indicates ridiculously astronomical prices and substandard food.

Then we came across the club's guide to the year end festivities. On Christmas eve, a buffet dinner at Windows on Bukit costs only $55 per member. The price point made our choice a no-brainer. We immediately made reservations for two.

Overall, the buffet, albeit limited, was commendable. There were a number of high points but some unmemorable but satisfactory dishes.

We started with the Brown Lentil Soup with Chorizo, which was served with assorted breadrolls. The soup was perfectly creamy, redolent of mashed creamed peas. Unfortunately, peas are not my thing. The addition of the chorizo was a plus point though.

There was an assortment of sushi and sashimi as well. These were fresh enough, but ordinary fare. Clockwise from saucer of soy, Inari Sushi (sweet beancurd skin pouch with rice stuffing), California Maki, Ebi Sushi (boiled prawn), Kani Sushi (crab meat), Maguro Sashimi (raw tuna), Kapa Maki (cucumber), and Salmon Maki.

There was a small selection of cold cuts, Black Forest Ham (left) and Smoked Chicken (right). I liked the fact that they weren't too salty.

There was an Arabic selection as well, the Shish Tawook (skewered chicken on the right) and Shish Kebab (skewered lamb on the left). Loved the Shish Tawook, the spice rub was nuanced and delicately smoky.

There were a few Asian selections as well, but we liked the Cereal Prawns the best. The battered prawns were crispy and fragrant on the outside, and plump and juicy on the inside. Fried curry leaves and sliced chili padi were added for some spice and heat.

What's Christmas without the turkey and ham? Slow-Roasted Christmas Turkey with Roasting Jus (bottom) and Pineapple Glazed Bone Ham (top left) were served with Roasted Potatoes with Rock Salt and Rosemary (top right). This was a winner. The turkey was moist and juicy, the ham was sweet and savoury, and the potatoes were enhanced with aromatic rosemary. the BF and I went back for third helpings.

We also got the Chestnut Stuffing (right) and Beef Medallion with Cafe de Paris and Sauteed Mushrooms (left). The BF loved the beef medallions, it was succulent and robust, and cooked to a perfectly medium well doneness. The chestnut stuffing was textured and wasn't pulverised, with the creamy nuttiness of chestnut infusing every bite.

Moving onto the tantalising desserts, they were as yummy as they were beautifully presented. The Apple Jalousie with Butterscotch Sauce (top) was flaky and crispy, with fragrant caramelised apples and raisins on the inside. The Cheesecake (right) was delicately creamy, with a subtlety that was very appreciated. The Coffee Cheesecake (bottom) was our favourite dessert of all, it was creamy, with its sweetness tampered by the bitterness of coffee. The Lemon Sponge Cake was fluffy and light as air, and the lemon lent a refreshing zing.We sent our compliments to the pastry chef, the desserts were very very good.

There was also a Chocolate Fountain with Profiteroles, Marshmallows, Fruit Skewers of Honeydew, Watermelon, Pineapple and Strawberries. It was difficult to go wrong with the combination of melted hot quality chocolate and anything.

A roving 2-person band belted out easy-sing-along melodies from the 70s and 80s, which provided some entertainment. Although the restaurant was a full-house, we were seated away from everyone else, which ensured some privacy and a romantic ambience with dim lighting and a view overlooking the driving range.
