Noodle Place Restaurant

In the midst of all the gleaming new shopping malls lining Orchard Road, Centrepoint is one shopping centre that's slowly but surely getting passed over by shoppers. The one upside about the dwindling number of human traffic in this old-timer mall is that the restaurants here are generally not as crowded as the ones in the shopping centres across the road. Also, the restaurants here tend to be quieter and less like a wet-marketplace.

Noodle Place Restaurant has been one of the anchor tenants in Centrepoint for as long as I can remember, specialising in Cantonese favourites such as roasted meats, noodles and congee.

We had the Twin Mixed Roasted Meat ($17.80) with Roast Duck and Soya Sauce Chicken. The chicken fared better, with its tender delicately soy-infused meat, compared to the slightly tough texture and gamey taste of the roast duck.

The best part about the Shrimp Wanton Noodle ($7.50) are the al dente noodles, springy, with a delightful bite so they were a joy to eat. The wantons could have been larger though, and the portion bigger for the price. Crystal Jade Kitchen and Imperial Treasure both do the same dish for a slightly more competitive price.

The Sauteed Dried Beef Hor Fan ($11) was quite lackluster and boring though, eatable but really quite ordinary. Noodles didn't have that smoky finish of a hot wok and the beef was a little overcooked and tough as well.

The Braised Mixed Vegetables with Beancurd ($11) was done to a homecooked style, but also quite a ho-hum affair. Something a fairly competent cook could have whipped up at home.

I always like Braised Peanuts ($1.50) as an appetizer, and Noodle Place does a good rendition. Soft, moist peanuts braised with a rich but delicate soy sauce.
