Tiong Bahru Bakery, Eng Hoon Street

We'd originally planned to have lor mee at Tiong Bahru Market, but since it's closed for renovations, we popped over to Tiong Bahru Bakery for a little carb heaven.

A favourite of mine, the Chocolate Almond Croissant ($4) was fluffy and crispy and layered and rich.

As a child, snacks like hotdog buns were an integral part of school lunches. But those sad buns had nothing on TBB's Chicken Hotdog ($5.30) buttery and dotted with melted cheese for added oomph.

The SC Croissant Set ($12) comprised two open pastries, the "rolling dumpling", a take on xiao lao bao, stuffed with minced pork and seasoned with black vinegar, ginger, sesame seeds and chives; and the "running egg", a confectionery rendition of Japanese ramen, with a runny, soft boiled egg, and lashings of bonito flakes.

with a sesame mesclun salad with cranberry and sunflower seeds, and dressed with a zesty yuzu emulsion.

The Pearfect ($7) with celery, pear and green apple juices, was quite the detoxifying refresher.

I hate raw celery, so I stuck with the Latte ($5.50), a frothy, potent concoction of caffeine goodness.
